Wood ages with the climate. The sun, moisture and fungi take their toll.
Protect by Painting.
Use a clear finish.
Use wood oil preservers.
Use a wood stain.
Make sure to shake the can and/or stir it.
Go to your local hardware store to get a color match. Bring a piece of wood with you if you can.
If you get stain on your hands, just use some water and friction.
Use wood putty to patch corroded wood
